JA Camp Startup offers an exciting experience for 8-13 year old youth interested in running their very own business!

In this one-week summer day camp, campers create and operate a business of their own. Campers choose a product idea, produce their product, create a sales pitch, and put their sales skills to the test in JA’s camp market.

A wide variety of fun and engaging activities make JA Camp Startup a place where future entrepreneurs can learn and thrive!

What do campers do in JA Camp Startup?

Over the course of one week, campers will learn the essentials of what businesses do and how they work while also planning and running a small startup business of their very own! Weather dependent, campers will spend time both indoors and outdoors enjoying a mix of fun and engaging learning and active play.

What are the operating hours for camp?

Regular camp hours are Monday – Friday, 9:00am to 4:30pm. Campers should be signed in at camp between 8:30am and 9:00am and signed out between 4:30pm and 5:00pm.  Extended care is available to help support parents/guardians who require an earlier drop off or later pick up time.

What are the options for extended care? (Early drop off or late pick up)

Early care is available starting at 8:00am and late care is available until 5:30pm. Extended care fees apply at a rate of $50/week for drop off before 8:30am or pick up after 5:00pm and should be paid at time of registration. If no requests for extended care are received Camp Staff will arrive and depart at the regular times (8:30am – 5:00pm). 

What is the price of JA Camp Startup?

The price for a camper to attend one week of JA Camp Startup is $250 in London and Kitchener. There is a $15/week discount for additional campers from the same household in the same week. Additional fees apply if early drop-off or late pick-up is required.

Are there age restrictions to attend JA Camp Startup?

JA Camp Startup is designed for children ages 8-13. Campers must be at least 8 years old prior to the start of camp.

How many kids are in each camp?

Our camps have a maximum of 15 campers per session.

What is the ratio of instructors to campers?

We have one camp counsellor for every 7 campers as well as additional support from our volunteer “leaders-in-training”.

What is JA’s camp cancellation policy?

Cancellations requested 6 business days or more prior to the affected camp week will be granted a full refund minus a $50.00 non-refundable deposit per week. Cancellations requested 5 business days or less from start of the first day of a camp session will forfeit any refund. Refunds for withdrawals due to medical reasons will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Refunds will not be issued if the camper is removed from the camp program at the choice or request of the camper or camper’s parent(s)/guardian(s), or is dismissed from the camp for contravention of the camp guidelines or the camp behavior code of conduct as outlined in the 2024 JA Camp Parent Guide.

JA South Western Ontario reserves the right to cancel a camp due to inadequate registration or situations outside the control of JA South Western Ontario such as health reasons or other unforeseen circumstances. Whenever possible, JA will make every effort to communicate such changes at least one week in advance. In the event that JA South Western Ontario cancels a camp, a full refund will be issued or credit can be applied to another week of camp.
