Planned Giving

Your gift gives students a brighter future

Make a lasting impact in your community through charitable gift planning.

A planned gift is committed now, and can be celebrated now, but actually doesn’t take effect until the future. Through a planned gift to JA South Western Ontario, you can make a significant difference in the lives of youth tomorrow, with little or no effect on your finances today. Donors who inform us of their plans receive personalized opportunities for involvement and public or private recognition.

There are many ways to leave a planned gift. For your consideration, here are three of the easiest ways:

Learn more about a Bequest in your Will

A bequest is a direction in your Will that a certain sum of money, a particular asset, or a portion of the estate is to be given to JA South Western Ontario. Please speak with your legal advisor for suggested Will clauses to assist you with your plans.

When you draft or revise your Will, please provide your lawyer, notary, or advisor with instructions to leave a bequest to:

Junior Achievement South Western Ontario
Currently of 15 Wharncliffe Road N, London ON, N6H 2A1
Charitable Registration #107554263 RR0001

Suggested Will Wording:

  • If you would like to leave a Specific Bequest (a specific sum of money or property) eg. cash or securities, you may use: “I give to Junior Achievement of South Western Ontario, Charitable BN#107554263 RR0001, currently of 15 Wharncliffe Road N, London, Ontario, N6H 2A1 the sum of $ [insert amount]” or “I give to Junior Achievement of South Western Ontario, Charitable Registration #107554263 RR0001 , currently of 15 Wharncliffe Road N, London, Ontario, N6H 2A1 [insert description of property]…” e.g. 100 shares of RBC.
  • If you would like to leave a Residual Bequest (all or a percentage of what remains of the estate after paying debts, taxes, expenses, and other bequests), you may use: “I give to Junior Achievement of South Western Ontario, Charitable Registration #107554263 RR0001, currently of 15 Wharncliffe Road N, London, Ontario, N6H 2A1 all (or stated percentage) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate…”
  • If you would like to leave a Contingent Bequest (a gift that only takes place if you are not survived by certain individuals), you may use: “If [name(s) of primary beneficiary(ies)] does not survive me, or shall die within thirty (30) days of my death, then I give to Junior Achievement of South Western Ontario [describe amount of cash, property, or percentage of residual interest]…”

Should you decide to make JA South Western Ontario a beneficiary in your Will, we hope you will share your decision with us so that we can ensure we are able to accept your intended gift, allocate it according to your preferences, and, most importantly, express our gratitude today. Your gift intention will be held in the strictest confidence.

Learn more about a Gift of Life Insurance

Gifting life insurance is a terrific way to create a future legacy while preserving your Estate for your loved ones. You can make a large future impact with a small gift today – donating life insurance allows you to make a significant charitable donation for a comparatively small premium.

The benefits of gifting life insurance include:

  • Tax Benefits – Depending on how you donate your life insurance, you can enjoy tax benefits during your lifetime or through your estate.
  • Large Future Impact – Donating life insurance is a cost-effective way to create a significant gift with modest premium payments.

How to donate Life Insurance:

  • Name Junior Achievement of South Western Ontario as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy. Your estate will receive a charitable tax receipt for the proceeds of the policy.
  • Transfer the ownership of a paid-up policy with Junior Achievement of South Western Ontario named as the beneficiary. You can either defer the tax receipt for your estate or receive an immediate tax receipt for the fair market value of the policy.
  • Transfer the ownership of a partially paid-up policy with Junior Achievement of South Western Ontario named as the beneficiary. You will receive a tax receipt for the fair market value of the policy and annual tax receipts for all ongoing payments of premiums.
  • Establish a new policy with Junior Achievement of South Western Ontario as both the owner and beneficiary. You will receive annual tax receipts for all ongoing payments of premiums.

Should you decide to make JA South Western Ontario a beneficiary of your life insurance policy, we hope you will share your decision with us so that we can ensure we are able to accept your intended gift, allocate it according to your preferences, and, most importantly, express our gratitude today. Your gift intention will be held in the strictest confidence.

Learn more about a Gift of Stock/ Securities

A gift of appreciated stocks or securities is a worthwhile alternative to a cash gift. The elimination of capital gains tax on gifts of appreciated securities provides you with a substantial tax incentive for donating stock. Other benefits include:

  • A charitable tax receipt
  • No capital gains tax paid
  • Satisfaction of seeing your gift put to good use today

Donating a gift of securities is a tax-efficient way to support Junior Achievement South Western Ontario. Canadians who donate appreciated securities (including stocks, bonds, and mutual funds) directly to a registered charity eliminate capital gains tax on the investment. The capital gains tax exemption does not apply if you sell the securities first and then donate the cash proceeds. To illustrate the added value of transferring a gift of securities, we’ve included the example below.

ExampleSell stock and donate proceedsDonate stock directly to JA SWO
